About USTM Guide

USTM Guide is an independent reference project that turns U.S. trademark procedure into something you can read once and act on.

Why this exists

Most trademark content online is either a law firm brochure pushing a flat-fee filing, or a government page written for practitioners. Neither tells a founder what their applied-for application will actually cost, what an examining attorney is objecting to, or which deadline quietly cancels a registration. This site is built to answer those questions with real numbers and real procedure, in plain English.

How the content is built

  • Every page is generated from structured data files, so a fee change is edited in one place and every calculator updates.
  • Fee figures are taken from 37 C.F.R. § 2.6 and the USPTO's published fee schedules, with the effective date shown on each tool.
  • Reference datasets — Nice Classification, statute index, TMEP chapters, surname and geographic lists — come from public records and name their source.
  • Tools run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your device.

What this site is not

Not a law firm, not the USPTO

USTM Guide is not affiliated with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and does not provide legal advice. File at uspto.gov, confirm figures against the official schedule, and hire a U.S.-licensed attorney when a refusal is final or money is on the line.

Corrections

Fee schedules and procedure change. If something here is out of date, wrong, or worded in a way you think would mislead a filer, tell us from the contact page and we will correct it and update the revision date on the affected page.
